Minister Masutha visits new Mpumalanga High Court and local seat of the Mpumalanga High Court in Middleburg
11 May 2019
The Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Advocate Michael Masutha, MP will visit the Mpumalanga High Court in Mbombela on 13 May 2019. Minister Masutha will be accompanied by the Director General Mr. Vusi Madonsela as well as senior official of the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development.
The Minister’s visit to the Mpumalanga High Court coincide with the historic occasion in our constitutional calendar when the court will be hearing its first case as the newest High Court to be built by the 5th Administration. The court opened its doors to public on 01 May 2019(the International Workers Day).
The first seating of the Mpumalanga High Court marks an important milestone in the implementation of the government priority of improving access to justice for all. The commencement of the operations of this court completes the cycle of establishing a seat of the High Court in each of the nine provinces of the country.
The Community of Mpumalanga now has its own High Court and no longer has to endure the hardship and the high cost of commuting to Pretoria to seek legal redress.
The Minister and the DG will also visit the local seat of the High Court in Middleburg where they will meet members of the judiciary, conduct a walkabout, observe service level standards provided to the public and offer support to the staff. They will also engage with members of the public to assess their satisfaction with the services they receive from the courts.
The visits are part of the department’s commitment to broaden access to justice in previously marginalized communities.
